Privacy Policy
This policy describes Beid, our event participation app, and levarac.org. Levarac Foundation is an unincorporated voluntary association. In this policy, “we” means the team operating these services. Beid is designed to record evidence of presence without requiring a name or account, but event observations can be sent to an event's observation operator. A public wallet address can also identify a person when combined with other information.
Information Beid handles
- Nearby devices: With Bluetooth permission, Beid exchanges and observes rotating identifiers from nearby participating devices. It uses these identifiers, event context, and time windows to build signed observations of proximity. Bluetooth permission is needed for this feature.
- Events: When you enter an event code or discover a nearby event, Beid requests event definitions and verification data from the event registry. Requests can reveal the code or its hash and your IP address to the registry and its infrastructure provider.
- Records on your device: Beid keeps event keys, observation drafts, signed observations, submission state, receipts, and display preferences in app storage. The app protects its signing key material with the device's security facilities. Records remain on your device until you remove the app or its data, subject to your device's backup settings.
- Observations sent to an operator: For an eligible event, Beid may send a signed observation to the operator named by that event's verified definition. It can contain an event identifier, an observation time, a signing public key, rotating identifiers, and evidence derived from nearby devices. The operator returns an acceptance receipt. Network providers may also process request metadata such as IP address.
- Optional wallet connection: If you connect MetaMask to bind a wallet, Beid receives your public wallet address, chain identifier, and a signature you approve. It keeps a local display hint for the last connected address. The wallet connection uses MetaMask's software and services, which have their own privacy practices. Beid does not request your wallet seed phrase or private key.
Why we use this information
We use it to find and verify events, create and submit participation evidence, return receipts, prevent duplicate or invalid submissions, secure the service, and diagnose failures. We do not use Beid to serve ads or sell personal information.
Where information goes
Event registries and observation operators receive the requests or observations described above. Hosting and network providers, including Cloudflare where used, process data needed to deliver those services. If you choose MetaMask, its software and connection infrastructure process the wallet interaction. An event organizer may operate a separate registry or observation operator; its terms and privacy practices can also apply.
Some events may publish cryptographic commitments or receipts to a public blockchain. Public blockchain data is visible to anyone and generally cannot be deleted. Beid does not publish a person's full nearby-device history to a blockchain as part of ordinary observation submission. A public address or other on-chain value may nevertheless be linked to a person through information outside Beid.
Retention and your choices
Local app data remains on your device until you clear the app's data or uninstall it, subject to your device's backup settings. Accepted signed observations and receipts can be retained by an operator indefinitely; there is currently no automatic deletion period for the Levarac observation operator. The operator may need accepted records to verify participation and audit commitments. Network and hosting providers apply their own log retention periods.
You can decline Bluetooth permission, choose not to join an event, and choose not to connect a wallet. Those choices limit the related features. Clearing the app's data removes its local records but does not erase records already accepted by an operator or data on a public blockchain. Contact us about access or deletion of operator-held information; we will assess what can be identified and removed without undermining other participants' verification records.
Website visits
levarac.org is a static website. Its hosting and network providers may process your IP address, request details, and security logs to deliver the site and protect it. This site does not require an account and does not intentionally set advertising cookies.
Security, children, and changes
We use signed records, transport security, and device-protected key storage to reduce risk. No networked system is perfectly secure. Beid is intended for event participants, not children acting without an organizer or guardian. We may update this policy as the product or operators change; the date above shows the latest version.
